Where did this year go? Some of us may be scurrying to find last minute gifts; others may be making Christmas Day plans, while others may be thinking ahead to New Year’s Resolutions and goals. Whatever you are doing during these last hectic days of 2017 make sure you spend them with family and friends.
If you are looking for alternative suggestions to the typical “New Year’s Party”- check out our list of family friendly events in the Sacramento area. You don’t necessarily have to stay up to midnight to ring in the New Year… many celebrations are being held during the day so you can still get your beauty sleep.
Crocker Art Museum is hosting their annual Family Festival celebration and celebrating a “Noon Year’s Eve”. From 10am-2pm, enjoy a celebration of live music, dance performances and festive art activities for the entire family. This is a fun celebration that anyone can stay awake for! This is a free event.
Roller King in Roseville hosts a New Year’s party with a canned food drive to help local needy families. From 7pm-1am, you can ring in 2017 on skates! Admission is $10 with a can food. $20 without. They will be celebrating on the skating rink with a balloon drop at midnight! If you can’t make it until 1am, then it’s only $5 from 7pm-10pm.
Sacramento Children’s Museum is hosting its annual “Who Year” daytime celebration. The museum is open from 9am- 4pm with hourly New Year’s celebrations starting at 10am. Enjoy games, arts and crafts, noise makers and a bubble stomp to ring in different countries New Years.
Old Sacramento hosts its annual New Year’s Eve fireworks extravaganza. This celebration caters to all ages. Starting at 5pm, enjoy family friendly live music, games, and kids activities. The fireworks extravaganza will begin at 9pm.
Or, you can always make it a party at home and create some fun New Years Eve memories with crafts and games. Every year, my family stays in and watches the “New York” ball drop and celebrate the East Coast New Years (sadly my kids have finally caught on…so I think this is the year they stay up until midnight). We always create fun “poppers” to ring in the New Year.
What you need to create your own party poppers:
Toilet Paper Rolls
Wrapping paper, colored paper or even plain paper
Tape (you can use scotch tape or fancy tape to decorate – you choose)
Ribbon
Candies, confetti and whatever small goodies you can find to place inside the popper.
How to:
1. cut the Toilet Paper roll in half.
2. Fill the toilet paper rolls with goodies and tape shut.
2. Wrap the roll with colored paper.
4. Tie the ends with ribbon
At the strike of midnight (or whatever time you choose to celebrate the New Year), break the poppers in half and out falls your prizes. Enjoy!
